I want to share some tips, Pizza Delivery Tips, I’ve learned from being a Pizza delivery driver, and I’d love to hear some of the things you’ve learned, as well.
I’m going to start off with my best, money-making tip that I’ve learned. And it is, when someone signs a credit card slip, and puts their name but doesn’t fill in anything on the tip and total lines, I ask them politely if they would please fill in the total line.
For a long time, I mistakenly thought that these people were just choosing to (somewhat rudely) not give any tip. Then one day it dawned on me, that some of these people don’t know how to fill out a credit card slip.
For some, no one has ever explained to them that they should fill in the numbers. I guess they just think that they will automatically be charged the amount the store told them, which is true.
But, they have the chance to give a tip to the driver, and they have the chance (which they should take) to make sure no one else fills in any numbers on the tip and total lines.
So that is my best tip for you.
The first time I tried, I was so surprised, because I expected them to just fill in the pizza total, but the first time I used this, I asked a lady if she would fill in the total line on the slip, and she took it back, and wrote in a $2.00 tip, and put the total, including the tip! I was pleasantly surprised.
As I said, I wasn’t expecting her to add a tip, but just basically pointing out to her (and all the others) that there was a number slot they should be filling in.
Of course, many times since then, I have not been pleasantly surprised, when I hand the slip back and say, would you mind filling out the total line? and they have put the total, adding no tip.
After a little more experience at using this idea, I improved it slightly, at least I think I did.
Now, if it seems like the right time and place, I hold the slip and say, “would you mind filling in the total? You can put a tip or no tip, and then put the total here.”
So far, I’ve never had any one be upset about this (my asking), and I’d say about 25% of the time when I do this, they will add a tip.
So it’s worth a try.
Share your tips with us, too, if you’d like.
That’s it for now.
I hope to share more insights and tips I’ve gained as a pizza delivery driver in the days to come.
